Hikers at Gamla ridge viewpoint

First Anemones on the Gamla Ridge

The first red anemones appeared along the Gamla plateau this week — two weeks earlier than last season. Our morning group of eight hikers watched a pair of Griffon vultures ride thermals above the cliff while wild tulips opened in the basalt crevices below.

Guide Yael noted the soil temperature has been unusually warm since late February. If the trend holds, peak wildflower season may arrive by mid-March rather than early April.

Winter Green in Yehudiya Forest

After three days of rain, the Yehudiya stream was running full and the oak forest smelled of wet earth and moss. We crossed four stream fords — knee-deep in places — and found a family of rock hyraxes sheltering under a basalt overhang.

Winter hiking in the Golan is underrated. The trails are empty, the air is crisp, and every canyon feels like discovery.

Sunset Summit on Mount Bental

We timed our Bental circuit to reach the crater rim at golden hour. The valley below filled with mist while the sky turned amber and rose. Twelve hikers, total silence for five minutes — the kind of moment that reminds you why we do this.

The Coffee Ann bunker was closed for maintenance, but the alternate viewpoint on the eastern rim offered an even wider panorama. Highly recommend the sunset departure for experienced groups.
